Mantos del Monte

This textile and sound installation marks the culmination of my artistic research in Paraguay as a Fulbright Scholar. The work proposes an immersive experience that brings together embroidery practices, soundscape composition, and spatial suspension, forming a sensory archive in continuous motion.

The installation consists of 25 Ñandutí lace pieces, each inspired by a medicinal plant native to the Paraguayan forest. Suspended throughout the space, the works interact with sound recordings gathered from natural and communal environments, activating relationships between memory, territory, and cultural transmission.

Ñandutí, learned directly from local artisans in Itauguá, is approached not only as a textile technique but also as a carrier of collective knowledge. Through light, shadow, and sound, the installation explores the tension between archive and lived experience, connecting ancestral knowledge with contemporary artistic practices.
